Mistake #1 Not having your own Domain Name
If you have a web page with the address something like:
"www.some_one_else.com/~your_name" it means you do NOT have
your own domain.
Also, depending on who your host "some_one_else.com" is, you may
not even own your own pages! This is due to the copyright on the "html"
or source code that tells the computer how to display your page.
When you do not have your own domain, all your advertising for your web site points to your host "some_one_else.com", and in the event that your host retires, goes out of business, or gets bought out by a bigger company, your web site will disappear.
All your business cards, letterheads, ads and "good will" attached to that site will be "URL not found".
Sounds scary? Well, it is, but you can take control.
